Tubbercurry town itself has a population of approximately
2000 with the population of the hinterland in a 5-7 mile radius
approximately 7000 - 8000. Some of the population is indigenous,
having been born and reared in the area.
However this trend is changing as the Irish population becomes
more mobile and there is now a healthy mix of locally born
people as well as Irish and non-nationals who have moved to
the Tubbercurry area for a variety of reasons including economic/
social as well as for a change of lifestyle.

Tubbercurry has a very good housing stock as hundreds of
new houses have been built in the town and surrounding areas
in recent years. Most have been bought for owner occupation
but a good number have been purchased by investors for rental
purposes.
Many people like to rent for 6-12 months prior to committing
to a purchase and there is a variety of houses for single
people or small / large families to rent.
The pace of life in Tubbercurry could be described as easy
going. Located within 20 miles of Sligo City, some people
commute to Sligo for work (30 minutes drive). However there
is plenty of employment in the Tubbercurry area also and industries
and business such as Basta, Tool & Gauge, Connacht Gold
and dozens of smaller businesses employ hundreds of people
in the general Tubbercurry area.
Traffic jams and gridlock is definitely not a feature of
life locally.
There is a wide selection of clubs and societies in the area
(listed separately) and these lead to great opportunities
for children and adults to socialise and become totally involved
in all aspects of the community.

Tubbercurry and its environs is extremely lucky to have top
quality Primary and Secondary Schools – St.
Attractas Community School, located on the edge of
town is probably one of the best Post Primary Schools in Europe.
Opened in 2002 as a result of the amalgamation of 2 former
Secondary Schools in the area – Banada Abbey
and Marist Convent – the school was built under
a Public Private Partnership to an extremely high standard
on a 15 acre site.
An excellent range of subjects is offered for children of
all abilities and talents – academic and technical –
and the school is totally involved in all aspects of community
life while the community is also involved in school life.

Holy Family Primary School has helped educate
several generations in Tubbercurry at this stage and recently
benefited from a make over including upgrading of classrooms
and multi purpose rooms.
In addition the rural hinterlands around Tubbercurry have
a great selection of Primary Schools for children of those
particular areas.
Play Schools and Montessori Schools
are also available for children in the 2-5 age bracket both
in Tubbercurry Community Playschool and surrounding areas
and placements are generally not a problem.
North Connacht College in Tubbercurry offers
a range of courses for school leavers and adults as well as

Sligo City is just 20 miles (30 minute drive) from Tubbercurry
