of Commerce and Industry have been presented with a proposal for a one-way traffic
system in the town of Tubbercurry by engineers from Sligo Co Council. The Chamber
has been asked for comments on this proposal, so they have decided to hold a meeting
to seek the views and opinions of business and local people alike. These comments
will then be passed on to

meeting of Tuesday 12th at 6.30pm under the clock on Wolfe Tone Square will be
a Litter Action Event. Everybody is welcome to come along and join
in with this worthwhile and increasingly successful project. Equipment will be
supplied. Leaving Cert and Junior Cert exams are starting
this week. Best wishes are extended to all students sitting exams. The non-exam
classes from St Attractas School are now on summer holidays. The
death occurred unexpectedly of John McGuire formerly of Moylough in Hertfordshire,
England on May 26th last, aged 37. An only son of Tom and Gretta, John had spent
most of his adult life in England. His remains were brought home from England
and reposed in Coens funeral home on Friday last June 1st. Removal took place
the following day in Rhue cemetery. Sympathy of the entire community is extended
to his mother and father, Gretta and Tom his seven sisters and two children. May
he rest in peace. The death occurred last week of Catherine
Skeffington of Manchester and formerly of Connolly Park Tubbercurry, aged 58.
Catherine had been ill for the last few years but fought her illness with great
dignity. While living in Tubbercurry up until about 15 years ago Catherine was
a popular member of the local community. Her remains reposed in the Morahan funeral
home and removal took place to the Church of John Evangelist Tubbercurry. Burial
took place in Rhue Cemetery. Sympathy is extended to her husband Michael, daughters
Angela, Catherine, Clare, Teresa, Brigid, Ailish, Laura, sons Michael, Daniel,
David grandchildren and in laws. May she rest in peace. Stray
Dogs have become a major problem in the town centre in recent weeks, many of them
leaving their calling card at business premises doors. The dog warden has been
notified of this renewed problem and he will be taking appropriate action to take
these dogs off the streets. Some of these dogs are quite large and if they form
packs will be a major source of concern to sheep farmers in the locality. Garda
Pat Ridge is retiring this week after spending 34 years in the force. Pat has
been living and working in Tubbercurry for approximately 20 years and has become
part and parcel of the local community along with his wife Geraldine. A retirement
function is being held in Cawleys Hotel, Tubbercurry on Friday June 8th starting
9.30pm. Full details of the event can be had from Cawleys Hotel. Killala

Outings - A number of events have been planned for teens during the summer months.
The first of these is Orienteering in Forest Park on June 10th at 10am if interested
please contact the Resource Centre before Wednesday 6th June so that Transport
can be arranged. Activities planned for July and August include canoeing, surfing
bowling, pitch and putt etc. More details will be available on theses events in
the coming weeks. An updated version of The Official Driver
Theory Test is available for use in Conlon House, if interested please call the

second annual Tubbercurry Literary Festival is to be held during Tubbercurry Old
Fair Celebrations on Tuesday 7 August 2007. The festival will commence at 7:30
pm in Teach Laighne. Tubbercurry is a thriving and expanding town in the north
west of Ireland. It has a long established literary tradition and this has recently
been reinforced by the establishment of the Leyney Writers. This group has decided
to organise a literary festival to coincide with the town's Old Fair Celebrations
on Tuesday 7 August. To celebrate the town's literary tradition members of the
group will be reading from their work during the evening in Teach Laighne, the
new one-stop shop that houses Tubbercurry Community Library. The culmination of
the evening will be the announcement of the winners of the three competitions
that are being organised. These comprise a Short Story Competition; a Poetry Competition
and a Rhyming Poetry Competition Details of the rules and entry criteria for these
competitions can be had from Tubbercurry Community Library or from Leyney Writers,
25 Ballina Road, Tubbercurry, County Sligo. 'Phone 071 9185132. The
local Leyney Writers are launching their second book, 'Thursday's Thoughts', on
Thursday, June 14th. The official launch will take place in teach Laighne at 7.30
pm - all interested are welcome and light refreshments will be served. This book
contains a selection of stories, poems, memoirs, articles of local interest and
the winning entries in our Open Literary Festival held in July last in conjunction
with the Old Fair Day. Theis book will retail at 15 euro and 20% of the proceeds
of each sale will go to the local Gallagher House Resource Centre. Readings by
the authors will follow the official ceremonies. Last
Call for Hospice Walk Money to be returned. Walkers on the Hospice Walk on May
Bank Holiday should return monies collected to John Gillespie by the end of this
